Over the last number of weeks there has been a lot of change in my world, so I have been neglecting my studies. As a result I had to put a number of hours into my Personal Trainer course yesterday. Like many of the previous sections, a lot of it came naturally to me. I covered training loads, periodization (areas I have personally dabbled in over the years) and nutrition. Nutrition is proving really enjoyable and although I'm familiar with a lot of what's been said, it's great to cover these areas again. Recently, Remie has begun making homemade Paleo Granola. It is absolutely delicious and is increasing my protein intake which is essential as my Ironman Training load increases. I have just 13 sections left to complete and then I'll have my final exams. That reminds me, I need to re-test for my lifeguard certificate this summer. Busy times. If anyone wants to talk about training plans or nutrition please drop me a mail. This isn't just study for me I love this stuff so even if it's just for a chat, lets have it. - Phil
Ok so the certification programme is going fine, but that's as far as its going, just fine! I have a close friend who warned me that the opening chapters were heavy and he wasn't lying. So far I have covered 5 units and let me tell you Christmas is not the time to try and work through this kind of material. Anyway, I don't know how I got through my Journalism BA all those years ago but certainly, the discipline needs to be improved.
Having said all that, I have completed the Quizzes so far with results that speak for themselves. I did not consult the text book during any of these and am trying to get a quiz done each Sunday (as you will see below this fell badly apart during Christmas so I paid for that tonight). Its demanding but I'm trying to get through it. Learning lots about the human body at present and what all those years of rugby have done to my poor joints and muscles. I will try to pay more attention to this section of the website going forward.
Ok, so I have nailed my colours to the mast. Aside from making the initial decision to become certified as a personal trainer with ISSA, this is the first major step I have taken in following that goal. As I work a 9-5 office job, I will be studying for my certification in my spare time. Health and Fitness is a real passion of mine so this does not bother me in the slightest. However having only 24hrs in a day whilst also training for Ironman may prove challenging.
Anyway, the website will not be going live 'til January but I thought it'd be nice to start populating it in advance and really showing my intentions and commitment to this new move from an early stage. I'm excited to be going after this award and look forward to putting it up on the wall as soon as I have completed it. I plan to update this section of the website as regularly as possible with a mix of the following:
And anything else that comes to mind during the course of it all. I hope you enjoy reading about it.
